  Wireless Access

You use the Library’s wireless network entirely at your own risk!

Salinas Public Library provides unfiltered 802.11g wireless service for free
public Internet access.

The wireless network is not encrypted. Other wireless users
may intercept any information you send or receive using the
wireless network. Web-based security controls may not provide sufficient protection. The Library recommends that you do not
enter credit card numbers, passwords, or other personally
identifiable information.

Other wireless users may be able to view or change files on
your computer. It is recommended that you install and use
virus protection software, firewall software, and current
security patches or upgrades on your computer.

To protect your privacy and prevent spamming, you will not be
able to use email client software (Outlook, Eudora, Mail, etc.)
with unsecured email protocols (POP3, SMTP, IMAP) on the
wireless network. Check with your email provider to see if
they can provide Web access to your account from a public
wireless service.

You will not be able to use FTP (file transfer protocol) or
file- sharing software on the wireless network.

In order to use the Library’s Internet service, including the wireless service, you must follow the policies recommended by the Library Commission and approved
by the Salinas City Council. If you do not abide by these policies, you will not be permitted to use the Internet and you may be required to leave the Library.

Read the Salinas Public Library Internet Public Access & Use Policy

You will not be able to access the Library’s printers via the
wireless network. To print pages, please ask Library staff to
sign you up to use one of the Library’s public Internet access computers.

You may encounter some “dead” spots in the library buildings
where wireless reception is limited. If you have trouble accessing
the Internet or staying online please move to a different location within the building.

Library staff cannot help you set up, configure, or troubleshoot
your wireless hardware and software. However, Reference Desk
staff can suggest books, classes or other resources that may
assist you.

Use of the wireless network and services by persons attempting, deliberately or accidentally, to corrupt, steal, damage, or destroy hardware, software or data belonging to the Salinas Public Library
or another person is forbidden. Users may not attempt to intercept, monitor, disrupt, or impede other users’ communications on the wireless network or to access or alter other users’ data or software.

The Salinas Public Library and the City of Salinas shall not be liable
for any damage that may occur to any computer, peripheral equipment, or storage media, loss of data, loss of confidential information, unauthorized access to or alteration of data transmissions, and/or any other direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential or exemplary damages resulting from or arising out
of use of the Library’s Internet service, wireless network, and/or electronic information resources, or inability to use these services,
or any other matter relating to these services.

You agree to indemnify and hold Salinas Public Library and the
City of Salinas harmless for any claim or demand that may be
made by any third party due to or arising from user conduct in connection with any use of the Library’s Internet service, wireless network, and electronic information resources, user provision of content, user violation of the Policy, or any other violation of the
rights of another person or party.
